This pretty Victorian resort inspired much of Benjamin Britten’s music and became home to his Aldeburgh Festival, which continues to be held in June, alongside other concerts, film, theatre and poetry festivals throughout the year. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, explore Aldeburgh’s estuary with marshes providing a haven to a wide variety of wildlife that nature lovers will adore. Discover the many pubs, restaurants and independent shops in the town, as well as some well-known stores for your everyday essentials. Just 2 miles along the coast is the picturesque village of Thorpeness with its mock-Tudor-style houses and wonderful man-made lake known as the Meare. Take a rowing boat out on the lake and explore the Peter Pan-themed islands, keeping an eye out for crocodiles lurking in the undergrowth! Southwold, with its lovely pier, is 18 miles up the coast and makes for a fantastic day out, promising beachside fun for all the family.
