Fisherman’s Cottage is on Burgh Island and is situated at the waters edge on the sheltered leeward side of the Island. It has truly magnificent views from all rooms towards Bantham and the Avon Estuary.

Burgh Island is just 300 yards offshore from Bigbury on Sea and is situated midway between Plymouth and Salcombe. At low tide a wide expanse of sandy beach is exposed between the Island and the Mainland and during this time it is possible to drive over, When the tide is in however access to the Island is by the 10 ton Sea Tractor.

There are only a few properties on Burgh Island in addition to Fisherman’s Cottage. These include the upmarket Burgh Island Hotel and the Pilchard Inn that dates back to 1336.

Burgh Island is just 282 metres from England. It has an upmarket art deco Hotel, a fourteenth century Pub and two private cottages, one of which is Fisherman’s Cottage. The Island is surrounded by the sea twice a day and when the sea parts it reveals a large sandy beach.

Fisherman’s Cottage can be whatever you wish it to be. If you require tranquility then sit back with a book or a drink and relax in the unique surroundings. If you are a romantic opt for an al fresco meal on the patio, either at lunch time or by moonlight. For the more active there is Kayaking, all types of Surfing, Swimming or even Fishing. The wide sandy beach is perfect for children. If you prefer socializing the Pilchard Inn is 200 yards away.

The Cottage

The cottage was virtually rebuilt in 1989 but we have retained the original exterior although it has been completely renovated inside. It sleeps five adults in two double and one single bedroom. The cottage has a lounge, well equipped kitchen/diner, a bathroom and separate shower room. Outside is a lawned area that catches the sun all day.

KITCHEN & DINING

A new contemporary kitchen has recently been fitted. It includes a large fridge/freezer and a breakfast bar with spectacular views.

SLEEPING

Fisherman’s Cottage sleeps five Adults in one single and two double bedrooms. The double bedrooms have King size Vi-Spring beds and both have views through French Doors towards the Avon Estuary and it is rather pleasant to sit in bed with an early morning cup of tea and watch the cormorants diving for fish. All bedrooms have a Smart Speaker.

The downstairs bedroom has a very unusual ensuite bathroom. It is actually an old lime kiln and the original roof has been retained.

FACILITIES

Fisherman’s Cottage has a shower room upstairs fitted with a shower, toilet and wash basin, as well as a washing machine/tumble dryer.

The lounge area has a large picture window and patio doors leading to a patio area. There is a Smart TV and a Smart Speaker player in addition to the very fast Skylink Wi-Fi. The views from the picture window and patio are superb.

There is a lawned area right by the waters edge to the side of the cottage. This area catches the sun all day and there is a store for the 2 kayaks that guests are welcome to use. There is also an exterior hot/cold shower to revive guests after a swim.
