Portscatho is an idyllic white washed coastal village protected within Gerrans Bay on the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall. Here you are perfectly positioned to explore this stunning peninsular, including the neighbouring chic resorts of St Mawes and Falmouth. Portscatho is also adjoined to the village of Gerrans, all of which lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
At low tide the local beach is sandy and adjoins the beach of Porthcurnick next door whilst the nearby South West Coastal Path leads to a long list of beaches beyond. Dogs are only allowed on the beach between November and Easter, so if you are renting one of the dog friendly cottages during summer you’ll need to check which beaches nearby don’t have restrictions during the holiday period.
There is a small car park, toilets and a few pubs and cafes, most of which are perched further up the hill which enjoys extraordinary views over the rugged eastern coastline. This is a lovely place to enjoy some local ambience and seafood whilst watching the fishing boats sail in with their daily catch. If you’re swift you may even be lucky enough to buy some fresh mackerel from one of the skippers.
Portscatho is more than equipped to supply you with the local produce thanks to its quality shops and eateries and for the culture vultures there’s an art gallery exhibiting arts and crafts from local artists. Browse the self-catering Portscatho cottages listed here which cater for couples, families with children and large groups with some of the cottages enjoying spectacular sea views.
