Polruan is a classic little historic port that straddles the river Fowey and English Channel on the South coast of Cornwall pretty much in between St Austell to the west and Polperro to the east. Although it’s surrounded by water it enjoys an excellent sheltered spot offering a perfect little harbour, Polruan Pool; home to a small fleet of colourful fishing boats and yachts. Polruan is loaded with legend and history and most commonly known for its world class boat building expertise. This is a place that almost feels lost in time, as the original village buildings and narrow lanes are intact, lending it a charming, un-spoilt quality.

The local beaches include Back Beach and Quay Beach and there are a couple of prize pubs that serve great local dishes in the village centre. There are some other interesting shops dotted about and at the quay side there is a post office and a cafe. If you’re thinking of holidaying here this summer, you might like to coincide with Polruan’s August Carnival, a colourful display of fun parades, competitions, food and festivities and lasts for just over a week.
