The Lizard is a remote ‘island like’ peninsular in Southern Cornwall that is connected to the mainland by a slither of land just a short drive from the popular seaside resort of Falmouth. It is surrounded by ocean on three sides and by the Helford river on the other. This beautiful labyrinth of rocky cliff tops, pebble coves, sandy beaches and magical creeks is a haven for wildlife and exotic plants. There are regular sightings of dolphins and seals and thanks to the warm influence of the Gulf stream bathing is a very pleasant experience. But it also offers an incredible choice of entertainment in the shape of fine eateries and organised activities, including plenty of water sports, hiking and horse riding. The most popular beaches are Kynance Cove, pipped as one of the best beaches in the world thanks to its fine sand and turquoise waters, then there are the broad sands of Kannack Sands and Praa Sands which are two great surfing beaches. Dogs are welcome to the east side of Kannack Sands all year round but only between November and Easter on Kynance Cove so if you’re looking for pet friendly cottages in Lizard you’ll have a choice of beaches to visit.
