Cowes is a vibrant seaport town up in the north of the Isle of Wight which is especially famous for sailing, especially the Cowes week regatta. This is a town that has a major maritime history and world class sailing events. As it straddles both sides of the River Medina, Cowes is split into two, East Cowes and West Cowes and both have a large marina as two separate shopping areas. Between the two sides you could not wish for more entertainment and facilities to guarantee an enjoyable stay here. Apart from the obvious water sports set-up there is great shopping for those in need of some retail therapy and museums, art galleries and craft shops for those needing a culture fix, most notably Queen Victoria’s holiday residence, Osbourne House. And once you’ve worked up an appetite, there are some very fine restaurants and atmospheric gourmet pubs where you can let your hair down.

Both East and West Cowes have excellent beaches, Mussel Rocks and East Cowes Beach are perfectly family friendly and offer fantastic views across the Solent, which is at its best when decorated with colourful sails. Finding suitable self-catering Cowes accommodation is not difficult if you plan ahead, it’s when you leave it to the last minute that you might have less of a choice. The holiday homes here range from budget cottages to luxury apartments and will suit couples or families, with all properties just a few minutes to the seafront and the beach. To see more properties right on the beach check out the list of seafront holiday homes advertised on Beachlets, all boasting direct beach access. Book direct with the property manager or owner and save as you are assured the lowest rates inclusive of any late deals or special offers.
