Ballyconneely Cottage | Sleeps 6
Pet friendly holiday cottage in Ballyconneely, County Galway ideal for families with children or groups located just a short distance from a sandy... |
Ballyconneely is a relatively recent settlement between Clifden and Roundstone on a rugged Peninsula of west Connemara, County Galway. Because the peninsula resembles a doily it is literally surrounded by beaches, lagoons, marshes and lakes, so it is a paradise for wildlife to flourish. The area is a little cut off too, affording it a special rural feel but the center has enough shops, food and drink establishments to keep visitors happy. The best beaches include Coral Strand in Derrygimla and all shores around Knock, Mannin, Dunloughan and Truska, not to mention the beautiful Bay of Ballyconneely. The seafood cuisine here is of course incredible, given the endless opportunities for fishing and shellfish farming. But there is a lot more to Ballyconneely than beaches and seafood. This is after all the breeding place of Connemara ponies, supposedly a legacy from a Spanish shipwreck long ago. There is also a fabulous 27 hole links golf course and a moor nature reserve, which is home to some interesting rare flora and fauna. The self-catering Ballyconneely cottages to rent listed here range from cottages for couples, family sized cottages and even cottages for large groups that sleep 8 or more. There are a number of pet friendly cottages plus several cottages that offer sea views located just a short walk to the beach.
