If you’re planning to get to know the Sussex coastline, then these coastal eateries on the beachfront are a great place to start.
Rockwater, Hove
Prepare yourself to swoon because this venue and menu is a trip to heaven. Outside there is a fabulous roof terrace where you can enjoy the sunset and inside the décor reflects the colour scheme of the seascape it overlooks. The views are incredible, and the food and drink are vibrant and delicious. Start with a cocktail for the full experience and savour as many dishes as you can tapas style, the hardest part is choosing from their excellent eclectic choice. The service is friendly and knowledgeable.
The Burlington, Worthing
This hotel in Worthing near Angmering on Sea is home to a very chic dining experience right on the beachfront with incredible sea views. The Head chef offers an impeccable and sophisticated menu for those who relish European Mediterranean fusion food, with plenty of seafood options, locally sourced of course. The desserts are fun and delicious, as are the fabulous array of cocktails on offer. There is a beautiful terrace for al-fresco dining, but the sea views are just as enjoyable from inside the supremely elegant interior.
The Lobster Pot, Bognor Regis
This beach café in Bognor Regis east of West Wittering is well worth its own salt in every way and totally affordable. The location is marvelous, just above the beach with a gorgeous large, sunny terrace that is perfect for watching the sunset. This café is super laid back and boasts awesome sea views. The menu promises anything from a hearty meal to a quick snack or a big breakfast. It is impossible not to love the Salad Niçoise with salmon instead of chicken, or the generous fish n chips and the perfectly grilled kipper salad, and they do some great gourmet sandwiches to take away if you’d rather enjoy a picnic on the sand.
Lucky Beach Café, Brighton
According to Elle magazine this place serves the country’s best organic burgers, but don’t let that stop you from trying the fish dishes, or the delicious vegan options, making sure you make room for the amazing deserts! Every plate is an experience with ingredients locally sourced from the fish port down the road as well as from local farms. This is a top establishment, not only because of its high culinary standards, but because they raise money and donate to projects in Rwanda, where their coffee is sourced from.
Perch, Shoreham by Sea
Perch is another fantastic venue that is bang on the beach with amazing sea views and great beach grub. You can eat outside or enjoy the sea vistas from inside on a windy day. This is not a crowded place as its location is Lancing Beach, which lies between Shoreham by Sea and Worthing, away from the busy resorts and tourists. Open all day, with a chilled atmosphere this place serves everything from fish mains to a simple coffee and cake, all scrumptious.
Bistrot Pierre, Eastbourne
This elegant French inspired restaurant in Eastbourne near Bexhill on Sea offers panoramic views over the sea all the way to Beachy Head, so make sure you enjoy the sunset with a glass of champagne on the terrace before you start. Inside it has a smooth, modern retro feel and the service is perfect, with offerings such as the classic Poulet Roti or Boeuf Bourguignon to tease your palette. They also have kiddy options like burgers so that the whole family is catered for.
