There is nothing more exciting than organising a holiday reunion with your loved ones, be it for family or friends. And when it comes to large groups, a beach holiday has to be the best option, as it opens up so many choices for activities and opportunities to relax, thus resulting in total satisfaction for all involved, even your faithful hounds.
For the person responsible for organising the accommodation, it's quite a job finding the ideal home away from home that's just right for everyone, taking into consideration everyone's needs, especially where kids and pets are concerned. You have to consider budgets, location, facilities, layout, local amenities and proximity to the beach as some of your guests may be less mobile. Then there are all the other possibilities, for example whether there are surfers in the group, or families who need access to attractions or are in need of some culture. That's where Cornwall delivers time and time again.
Thanks to a regular thrashing form the Atlantic, North Cornwall is ideal for those who want to surf, or those who love a rugged coastline with the added adventure of Ocean waterscapes and astonishing wildlife. The top two surfing destinations have long been recognised as Bude and Newquay and are defined by numerous large wide bays that deliver reliable waves all year round. The group accommodation in Newquay is especially popular given its suitability for groups of surfers looking for budget holiday homes to rent. Bude has more of a low key atmosphere, whereas Newquay is the party city. But both cater for families and large groups with plenty of spacious restaurants, pubs and accommodation near to the fabulous beaches. Both have popular surfing beaches that get crowded but they also both offer plenty of alternative bays close by, where family get togethers and sprawling picnics are no problem. In fact these alternative beaches are far more enjoyable and picturesque, but perhaps don't have all the bells and whistles when it comes to shops and state of the art facilities although many boast some of the best beach houses in Cornwall. For example Whitemouth Beach near Bude and Crantock Beach near Newquay are great surfing beaches ideal for families, yet without the mass crowds.
For those who prefer something a little more intimate, away from the madding crowd, there are many other small coastal towns and fishing villages in between these grand surfing Meccas that offer visitors what they want, be it appropriate sized surfing waves, large group holiday homes, a bit of social life, some culture or some simple fun on the beach. St Ives has it all, great beaches, great restaurants and an enviable art scene that few towns or cities can match. It's neighbour, Carbis Bay is the perfect spot to get away from the masses, yet conveniently near enough to St Ives to enjoy the culture and social scene. Port Isaac is bustling and picturesque with stunning shores and a vibrant summer vibe whilst Mawgan Porth is a pretty little fishing village with a great beachfront that comes alive in the summer and is near enough to Newquay to offer a bit of action when needed. Portreath, another small coastal village, has an excellent family beach that also offers novice surfers a good ride or two.
Then there is the very different shoreline of South Cornwall, where the popular beaches and resorts are much more commercialized, but there are still plenty of wild nooks and coves that offer spectacular natural beauty, fascinating wildlife and enough space, peace and quiet for family reunions or holidays with friends. Starting at the top there is Looe, an area littered with fabulous coves, award winning beaches and some amazing restaurants thanks to its infamous fishing fleet. A little further south, St Mawes has a sparkling waterside and its surrounding beaches offer a fabulous a mix of sailors, boaties and tourists that feels almost Mediterranean. Next on the list is Mevagissey, a gorgeous spot with one of the most idyllic beaches on this coastline with all the facilities and a stonking beach bar and cafe. A little further along the coast lies Falmouth, a vibrant coastal town with so much to offer in terms of its town centre and amenities, but also a choice of great beaches and a whole estuary to explore, either by boat, foot or bike. Last but not least, as this list is by no means exhaustive, comes Mousehole, a quaint harbour resort loved for its authentic white washed houses, cobbled streets and blessed with incredible views from Mounts Bay and St Michael’s Mount, not to mention the lovely sandy beaches on offer between Mousehole and next door neighbour Penzance.
All of these coastal hot spots and gorgeous sandy beaches make for the perfect escape for large group holidays in Cornwall. So check out our selection of Cornwall group accommodation near the beachfront and start planning your getaway today.
