A little known fact is that the Isle of Wight has more award winning beaches than any other county in England, pretty remarkable considering its size. But it’s not just the beaches that attracts the thousands of visitors a year; with everything from golf and fishing to shopping and horse riding, there is plenty to see and do on this remarkable island off the South Coast of England.
From Yarmouth and Freshwater in the North West to Shanklin and Ventnor in the South East, there are plenty of decent size seaside resorts to base yourself in, all offering a range of self-catering accommodation to suit all budgets and group sizes.
If you’re into water sports then you won’t have much problem finding an apartment or large holiday home right next to the beach, with some properties located right on the beachfront.
To the North of the island is the popular town of Cowes with the obvious draw being the sailing facilities and the annual regatta, ideal whether you’re a keen sailor yourself or if you prefer to relax with a cold one and watch the activity from afar.
It’s not just the sailing that makes Cowes the most popular resort on the Isle of Wight, the town is well known for it’s stunning Victorian Architecture and the buzz of the many festivals that take place throughout the year.
Water sports enthusiasts who aren’t into sailing and prefer beach holidays will be spoilt for choice on the island, with surfing, body boarding and kayaking topping the list of favourite pastimes for both the young and old, ideal activities for those on predominantly beach holidays.
Windsurfing and Kite surfing are also very popular especially on the beaches at Ryde and Bembridge whilst the majority of surfers in the know head for the beaches at Compton and Brook where there are good quality waves for both beginners and experienced wave riders.
In regards to beaches, many of them welcome dogs, so if you’re into pet friendly holidays your four legged friends won’t be disappointed.
For those holidaymakers who prefer to look rather than do there are a host of attractions to visit including museums, art galleries, a steam railway and even a zoo. Kids will enjoy the adventure parks while those of you who can’t get enough of shopping back home will discover plenty of up market shops who will be more than happy to help you part with your hard earned cash.
For those who like the water but are not necessarily into sports, try one of the cottages with hot tubs advertised with us, you’ll get wet with the added benefit of doing it while nursing a glass of bubbly.
So now you know there’s plenty of stuff do to when you get to the Isle of Wight and plenty of great beach houses to rent, how do you get there? Well that’s actually the easy bit with a host of different watercraft from ferries to hovercrafts leaving from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington.
If you’re planning a luxury break to the Isle of Wight and really want to arrive in style, there are a number of helipads, perfect for those planning day trips from the South Coast.
So there you have it, a fabulous spot for a holiday all year round, whether you’re a couple on a romantic escape or a large group looking for some fun, the Isle of Wight has something to offer pretty much everyone.
