There is a very good reason why Newquay is such a popular holiday destination. With miles of golden sands, spectacular headlands and craggy cliffs to explore, the natural beauty is hard to match. Then there is the surf element, the fun restaurants, the vibrant night life and long list of attractions and activities on offer. To make the most of Newquay it makes sense to stay by the sea, so here are a few activities that are a must if you are planning a trip.
Holywell Bay Beach
It is almost impossible to recommend one beach in Newquay as there are so many and all of them are fantastic, namely Crantock Beach, Porth Beach and Great Western Beach. However, our favourite is Holywell Bay Beach for its unspoiled beauty, its grassy dunes, rugged headlands and islets. This is a place to soak-up the sun, the nature and the magic. It is the perfect spot for an all bells and whistles picnic or beach games. Having said that there is the fabulous Holywell Beach Bar that serves drop dead delicious food from 8am to 8.30pm.
Fistral Beach
No trip to Newquay is complete without visiting the iconic Mecca of Surf that is Fistral Beach. Whether you surf or not this is a must do experience even if all you do is watch the surfers ride those magnificent waves while you sunbathe. That said, if you feel inspired, which you will, then take a surf lesson with one of the many surf schools either on a surfboard or a body board. The best tide is mid to low and the South end of the beach is safer, as it is protected from the bigger swell thanks to the Pentire headland.

Blue Reef Aquarium
This is a must see event if you love marine life, especially if your partner or children want to see what’s below the surface of the ocean that surrounds them. This aquarium is full of fascinating sea animals that are a delight for curious kids, and they are displayed in themed ways that educate in the most entertaining way. It’s a great break from the outdoors and probably only takes an hour or so to get round. Tickets are available for a whole day though so you can go around and visit the favourite areas as many times as you like. There’s a lovely shop at the end too, where you can buy the most adorable soft toy versions of the sea life inside the aquarium.
Jet Boat and Coasteering
If you are feeling a little adventurous, then another amazing way to enjoy this incredible coastline is Jet Boat Coasteering because you get to appreciate this incredible coastland from the sea. Just being on the jet boat is exhilarating, as you’re very close to the sea and marine life and the salty spray is so refreshing. The highlight is definitely jumping off a rocky outcrop, which is beyond reinvigorating and totally safe if you go with a certified organiser like Manawa.

Newquay Zoo
Another wonderful wildlife experience is the Newquay Zoo, home to over one hundred species, a child play area, events, food and general fun for a family outing. It covers approximately 13 acres of land so quite a walking experience of ever-changing environments, including sub-tropical gardens, African savannah plains, an aviary, a Tarzan Trail and climbing frames. All in all it’s a magical day out that will only take up two to three hours of your day and maybe time for a snack or lunch at the superb café.
