The Aquitaine coastline stretches from Biarritz to Arcachon, and just the very mention of those two places are enough to get me booking my tickets to this classy, sassy stretch of Atlantic coastline. There are four separate tranches to these eclectic shores. Just above Arcachon lies the Médoc, a stunning peninsula renowned for its wines, chateaus and magnificent pale sandy beaches that are lined by pine forests and wild dunes. A little further south lies the Bay of Arcachon where Europe's largest sand dune, called the Dune of Pilat drifts into a sparkling turquoise lagoon. Then there are the shores of Landes and the Silver Coast, named after the thrashing ocean spray that washes it.
Is there anything more exciting than planning your summer holiday? And it's extra special when combined with a group of friends or your extended family. You just have to make sure that you choose the right location, which generally tends to be a beach, due to the diversity and freedom it instantly affords groups of all ages.
For those of you who haven't heard of the world famous Sandbanks in Dorset, it’s about time you did! Apparently it's the 4th most expensive location to live in in the world. Yes… I thought that was Beverly Hills too, but in fact it is the fine sanded, dune packed peninsula that lies east of Poole Harbour in South Dorset.
If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the western tip of Cornwall you will experience some of England's most prized coastline and without the usual Cornwall crowds. It seems that the further west you go in Cornwall, the less crowded the beaches become and the wilder the scenery. It's hard to describe the therapeutic purity of this place in writing, but the light, the ocean and the sheer natural beauty awakens senses that you didn't know existed.
North Wales is all about un-spoilt beaches, rivers, mountainous terrain and wildlife, thanks to a stonking coastline and the Snowdonia National Park, which extends well beyond the mountains. Starting in the very north is the county of Conwy, a spectacular region that delights many a holidaymaker with its classic seaside resorts, impressive castles, quaint coastal cottages and its numerous waterways and nature reserves.
Dorset is still considered Britain's crown jewel destination, as it offers holidaymakers so much beauty and diversity thanks to its forests, meadows and the dramatic Jurrassic coastline. It's coastline alone covers 140 kilometers of shore offering sweeping beaches, heady white cliffs, ambrosia downs, fossil rich havens and countless nature reserves.
There is nothing more exciting than organising a holiday reunion with your loved ones, be it for family or friends. And when it comes to large groups, a beach holiday has to be the best option, as it opens up so many choices for activities and opportunities to relax, thus resulting in total satisfaction for all involved, even your faithful hounds.
There are few things more exciting than planning a holiday; be it a long weekend or a summer holiday. Even more exciting is when that holiday is combined with a special occasion or reunion with friends, family or both! And what better location for these large group holidays than an exclusive beach destination.
If dogs could speak and their owners took the time to ask them where they'd like to go for their next beach holiday… it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to hear them say 'Cornwall'. The land of sand, where hundreds of kilometres of dog friendly beaches await over excited canines chasing sticks, exploring rock pools or taking a refreshing dip. And it’s not just perfect for dogs, pet owners will love the beaches as well; blessed with some of the country's most scenic coastal walks, cool beach cafes, pubs and some of the best beachfront cottages and apartments to rent in the South West.
If there is one place that man and his best friend relish in the same way it is the beach. That sense of space to breath, the freedom to stretch your legs and get in touch with the elements is a mutual indulgence. And you don’t have to go far in Britain to find enough space for you and your dog to run wild without bothering the rest of mankind.
